Girls Inc. of Alameda County operates at the intersection of racial, gender, and economic equity in some of the most under-resourced communities in San Francisco’s East Bay Area to inspire girls to be strong, smart, and bold. From transitional kindergarten to early career, nearly 1500 youth and young adults engage in year-round transformational programming to help them achieve academic success, build healthy positive habits, and create an expanded sense of what is possible for their future.
Program Summary.
Girls Inc. of Alameda County provides a safe, supportive environment for participants to develop and hone academic fundamentals, engage in project-based STEAM learning, explore career possibilities and complete internships with supportive professionals, and have the support to apply to and attend college, all while building critical life skills, sisterhood, and a network of support. Hundreds of hours of academic, health, and leadership development programming are delivered per girl in 13 schools, and in our downtown Oakland center where girls from more than 60 area middle and high schools converge weekly.
Demographics and Outcomes.
Girls Inc. of Alameda County served 1,343 youth in 2022. Of those 35% were African American, 46% Hispanic/Latino, 12% Asian, 11% Mixed Race, 3% White, and 8% Other. Graduation Rate of youth in the program is 100% vs a 74% rate of comparable youth in County Public Schools.
